Assessment Process
in Detail
HOW DOES IT WORK?

-
Once you contact us via email (contact@beaconpsychology.ca) or phone, we will call you to gather information about your current concerns regarding your child's functioning, explain the assessment process, and answer any questions you may have.
-
If you decide to book the assessment, you will pay a non-refundable initial services fee, which will be deducted from the total cost.
-
We will email forms for you and your child's school to fill out. We will also request other documents, such as a copy of your child's report cards. At the time of booking, you will be asked to pay an initial services fee that will be deducted from the total cost of the assessment.
-
We will conduct a parent interview to gather information about your child's developmental and learning history and discuss any other concerns you may have.
-
Depending on the case, the parent(s), teacher, and/or the student will complete additional questionnaires to assess the student's executive functioning, behaviour, social-emotional, and/or adaptive functioning.
-
The student will attend approximately two testing sessions at the clinic (2-3 hours each), during which we will assess their performance in different areas that can affect learning. If applicable, a clinical interview with the parent(s) and/or child may also be conducted.
-
We will score, interpret, and summarize the assessment results in a written report. The report will include any potential DSM-5-TR diagnoses or BC Ministry of Education designations and provide recommendations.
-
We will discuss the assessment results at the parent feedback meeting, typically scheduled within 2-4 weeks after testing is completed.
-
You will receive a written report that explains the assessment results and recommendations in detail in a PDF using a protected electronic platform.
-
If requested, we may attend a school meeting to share the assessment findings (at an additional cost).

Important Note About our Cancellation Policy
Your appointment is a block of time that is reserved for you. Missed appointments and last-minute cancellations (less than 48 business-hour notice) prevent us from scheduling other people. If you believe you won’t be able to attend a scheduled appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Late-cancelled (less than two business days’ notice) or missed appointments will be charged at the hourly rate ($235-$282).

Because we spend time scheduling, sending forms and reviewing documents before your parent meeting, we will not reimburse the initial services fee if you decide to withdraw from the assessment.

In addition, if you decide to withdraw from the assessment after you have a parent meeting, there will be a 2-hour charge (in addition to the initial services fee) for the time spent up to this point.
